Cave diving

For those who go
further in.

Rainwater has been running through the limestone of this island for millennia, dissolving it into galleries, chambers and flooded passages. What is left is fresh water at 25 °C with visibility you will not find in the sea, stalactites and stalagmites that took thousands of years to form, and in some systems a halocline: the shimmering layer where fresh water floats on salt.

Prices are per diver and depend on the system: access, logistics and gear all vary. From US$ 200.

  • Two dives, one day

    El Chicho + Padre Nuestro

The two systems inside Cotubanamá National Park, in the same day. Wide passages, good visibility and a large dry chamber full of formations. Padre Nuestro has a halocline and, on its floor, fossils and animal remains over a thousand years old. It is where most cave divers here start.

  • Boca de Yuma · 4 km of cave

    El Toro

Widely held to be the most beautiful cave in the Dominican Republic, and four kilometres long. Crystal-clear water, a halocline and stretches of bacterial mat, which is what makes it as demanding as it is beautiful. It is a cave for divers who already have the hours in.

    • Transport and local helpers
    • Sidemount equipment and lights
    • A minimum of three tanks per diver
    • Tanks carried in by horse to the cave mouth

    Getting there
Getting there is part of it: a fifteen-minute walk through the woodland of Boca de Yuma, with local helpers bringing the tanks in by horse. The entrance opens up almost the size of a football pitch.

  • Santo Domingo

    La Taína

Stalactites, stalagmites and a halocline that separates the fresh water above from the salt below, so sharply you can watch the line move as you cross it. Shafts of sunlight come through the openings above and cut across the water. Beyond it, dry chambers mirrored in the still surface.

  • Santo Domingo · Cave Diver

    Jardín Oriental

Sharp rock formations, wide chambers and passages that have still not been fully surveyed. It asks for a Cave Diver certification because the navigation is genuinely complex.

    Dudu Lagoon & Cave

A lagoon of water so clear it looks like there is nothing between you and the bottom, and a cave system underneath it. The furthest of our systems, and the one that needs the most planning.

What you should know

These are not dives you improvise. Access, logistics and gear change with each system, so tell us your certification and your logged dives when you write, and we plan it with you. In every cave there is no surface above you: that is the whole point, and it is also why the certification is not negotiable.

The kit you dive with

XDEEP ZEOS, at no extra cost.

Complimentary use of the industry-leading XDEEP ZEOS gear with any diving service you book. Most centres charge extra for equipment like this: here you dive with the same kit we would take down ourselves.

XDEEP ZEOS backplate-and-wing BCD
  • XDEEP ZEOS

    Included

Backplate-and-wing BCD. Stable in trim, and it holds you level instead of tipping you upright.

  • XDEEP Sidemount

    US$ 25 per two dives

For cave and wreck penetration, where a single tank on your back will not fit through. It carries two regulators, so it is the one piece of kit we charge for.

  • Full standard kit

    Included

Tank, weights, regulator, mask and fins, serviced and checked before every departure.

Bring only your swimsuit. Tell us your size when you book and it will be ready on the boat.

Questions we get
every single day.

If yours is not here, ask us on WhatsApp — we answer in minutes, not days.

  • For the dive packages, yes — they are built for certified divers. If you have never dived, start with the Discover Scuba Diving course: a short theory session, a practice in confined water, and then a guided dive with an instructor beside you the whole time. Tell us your level when you write and we will point you to the right one.

  • The certified guide, private transport from your hotel, and the full diving equipment — tank, weights, regulator, BCD, mask and fins, including the XDEEP ZEOS gear at no extra cost (sidemount and twins are US$ 25 per two dives). Courses also include the SSI digital materials and all certification fees. Food and drinks are not included except on the island trips, which come with buffet lunch.

  • Yes. Private transport is included in every package. Tell us the name of your hotel and your arrival date when you book, and we agree a pick-up time that fits your day.

  • Two dives per day, morning and after a surface interval, so a 6 Dive Package runs across three days and a course is spread the same way. Packages are personal and non-transferable, and the dives can be spread over your stay — tell us your dates and we plan them with you.

  • Bayahibe is where the diving happens, and it is not only reef. We run cargo wrecks resting upright — St. George, Atlantic Princess, Monica — reefs like Aquarium and Turtle Reef, and flooded cave systems such as Padre Nuestro and Chicho, which few centres are certified to guide. What you dive depends on your level and the conditions that day.

  • Two or three days is usually enough, and in high season a week gives us more room to plan. If you are already here, message us anyway — we often have space the next morning.

  • Safety comes first: if sea conditions are not right we move the dive to another day of your stay, or refund it if that is not possible. We decide in the morning and tell you as early as we can so it does not ruin your day.

  • The minimum age is 10 for the introductory dive and 12 for certification courses. You will fill in a standard medical questionnaire; some conditions (heart, lungs, ears, pregnancy) need a doctor to sign off. Tell us in advance and we will walk you through it.

  • Italo, SSI Instructor Trainer and IANTD Technical Cave Instructor. He runs the centre himself and guides every dive, so you get the same instructor from the first briefing to the last ascent.
